Cooling

Our Top Tips for hot weather will help you keep your dog safe and cool during these hotter days:

Provide a shaded area for your dog, either inside the house on cool kitchen tiles or a covered crate or outside under a sun shade or some trees or bushes.

Soak rope toys in water or use plastic/ rubber toys and put in freezer for a nice cool enrichment toy

Use cooling vests/ coats to ensure your dogs internal body temperature stays at a comfortable level and keeps their internal organs cool.

Use a cooling mat or a damp towel for your dog to lay on when they get too warm - Available in our Wistow Store

Make sure your dog has access to a supply of cool fresh water all day

Walk your dog early in the morning and late in the evening when temperatures are cooler. Do the pavement test when considering walking your dog. If you cannot hold your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds without it being uncomfortable then don't walk.

Provide a paddling pool or splash mat for your dog to play in the garden for fun in the sun.

Older, heavier and flat faced dogs suffer more in the heat so consider this when planning exercise and walks.
