Why do I need a Soft Kennel?

Any dog living at home needs a still place, all for itself, where it can retreat to when in need of some time out or to rest after a long day.
The aim of the Soft Kennel is to function as a pet den, for your dog to have as its own “house” within your home, which is also quick and easy to fold together and build back up again for you to take on those longer journeys with your dog that do not involve the daily walks together.
As your dog feels “safe” and “protected” within its own den, it will also be more willing to travel in its portable Soft Kennel, when traveling in a motor vehicle, visiting the vet, or simply spending some days away from home.
The Soft Kennel is the one and only dog’s portable pet home you’ll ever need.

Here is an overview of the features which make a MAELSON Soft Kennel stand out compared to a similar canvas pet home:

• The inner steel frame is powder-coated for longevity, and is made with a generous, uniform diameter-thickness tubing. The thick gauge frame is a guarantee for years of trouble-free ownership. The frame has of course no protruding or sharp elements which could endanger the well-being of your dog.
• The main body of the Soft Kennel is made from tough, 600D nylon fabric, reinforced further with 900D nylon material at the corners.
• The bottom of the Soft Kennel is made of a waterproof fabric layer which is not only ideal for outdoor use, but also prevents any liquids from seeping through the kennel and staining for example a valuable rug in the house or your car seat upholstery, should your dog inadvertently happen to pass water.
• We source the nylon fabric canvas from reputable suppliers to ensure there are no traces of softeners or similar chemical additives harmful to the health of your dog. The MAELSON Soft Kennel has been tested and approved by an independent certifying company for containing no such harmful substances. The nylon canvas is of course easy to remove by undoing the inner Velcro straps attaching it to the frame, and is machine washable at 30°C.
• The zippers are sourced from what in our eyes is the number one brand for quality, the Japanese company YKK. The YKK zippers we use on each Soft Kennel can be spotted straight away for the ease with which they glide, their generous width & thickness, and the YKK logo embossed on the sturdy zipper puller.
• Both front & side doors each have a zip lock to prevent your dog from opening the zipper from the inside.
• For the doors & windows we use one of the best mesh fabrics currently available, which is made of a tight-weave reinforced nylon. This withstands the occasional scratching far better than cheaper rubber materials found in more economical pet homes.
• Each Soft Kennel is kitted with nylon loops on the top and nylon straps at the bottom, to secure the Soft Kennel either on the rear seat of a vehicle, or in the boot / trunk with bungee straps (not supplied) via the vehicles’ tethering points found in each boot / trunk.
• The rear window, side door and opposite side window have an additional roll down blind, which can be used to for additional comfort (for example at dog shows, to close out the outside world). We have intentionally left out a roll-down blind on the front door so that sufficient air circulation is guaranteed at all times. Should you however wish to obscure the front door for short periods of time, the Velcro patches at the top of the door enable you to attach a separate piece of fabric.
• Each MAELSON Soft Kennel has as standard an inner cushion, for added comfort. We also fit a quality YKK zipper on the inner cushion, to allow the removal of the outer liner if this should require washing. The liner is machine washable at 30°C.
• The Soft Kennel 52 & 62 sizes additionally have carry-handles to make it easier to transport your dog or cat inside without having to fold down the kennel.
• Last but not least, we pride ourselves in offering spare parts for each size & colour Soft Kennel. The steel frame, outer cover, inner cushion, plastic slide connectors and buckles are all available as spare parts should you ever need to replace these.

So, to recapitulate, when comparing a MAELSON Soft Kennel to a similar product, please make sure you do check the following core points:

1. How strong and durable is the inner frame?
2. How easy are the zippers to operate for an everyday use, and how do they feel quality-wise?
3. How sturdy are the mesh doors & windows?
4. Last, but not least, do make sure that, when opening an alternative kennel, you are not met with a strong whiff of chemical scent from the inside, as the long-term health implications of having a chemically impregnated product should sound an alarm to any dog owner.

Please be aware that, although we do take much pride and care in selecting premium quality materials, the Soft Kennel remains a fabric kennel.
Under no circumstance is the Soft Kennel intended to function as a place of forced confinement for your dog. Furthermore, if you have an aggressive or not yet kennel trained dog, if an unruly dog wants to get out of the Soft Kennel, its sharp claws & teeth will eventually work their way out of even the toughest nylon fabric.
